How to Stay Calm in an Angry World

Feeling frustrated, irritated or angry? You’re not alone.

In today’s world there is much to be angry about. The state of the world, the nation’s divide, political unrest, the lack of services, rising costs, funding cuts, and job losses. What is there not to be angry about?

So how do you stay calm and not get caught up in anger?

  1. Be mindful that all things change. What is currently happening will eventually change again for the better.
  2. What goes down, must eventually come up.
  3. Do not let others trigger you into their own angry and aggressive moods. People who are angry or filled with hate, want to get a reaction out of you.
  4. Practice a daily peaceful exercise or ritual. Do yoga, meditate, practice mindful breathing, take a walk. Release the building anger when it first starts to manifest.
  5. If someone criticizes you for your political view, thank them. People throw around a lot of name calling and insults, but if those terms refer to you as being a kind and thoughtful person who cares about others and the world we live in, then thank them. Caring is human.
  6. Keep focused on the positives in life. Although it may be hard to find them, they are always there.
  7. Remember what is being burnt down to the ground, will grow back stronger. The forest comes back with a vengeance!
  8. Talk to other like-minded people to release your anger and frustrations. There is power in uniting!
  9. Use your voice to be a positive force for change.
  10. Practice kindness, turn negative emotions into powerful acts of kindness.

It’s a fact that we are living in an angry world, but what is happening externally, does not have to affect our internal world. Do not let others take control of your emotions. Are you going to feel anger, hatred and fear? Yes, but whether you hold onto those emotions is up to you.

Make the world a better place. If you don’t like the current state of unrest, be a part of the change. Use your anger as fuel to make a difference. Rise up and away from those who are filled with negativity.
