Recently in our small community a postal worker died. She had worked at the post office for decades. Always a smile on her face, even when she was having a bad day, she expressed kindness to others.
When life recently took a turn towards chaos, loss and despair, her smile, her lightness made many feel better. Not that she was trying to be anything else other than kind, and chances are she never knew how many lives she touched in a positive way.
Life isn’t fair, and when a good person dies, we wonder why. Reflecting on her loss, made me think about my own life and the others I have met on my journey here on earth. Many have made a huge impact on me, and many of those were people that were not related to me or ones that I had a close relationship with, but people that were either strangers or people I would interact with on a daily basis.
When life gets hard or when those around us appear to be acting out darkness, think of about those who shine a light and bring a smile to your face, or say a word of encouragement, and then pass that kindness onto someone else.
Life is short, and we will be remembered by our families, friends and those in the community. How do you want to be remembered? Do you want people to see you as a kind, caring and generous person, or a bitter, resentful hateful soul? Every word, action or intention you send out affects those around you. It’s your choice. Choose kindness.
The unexpected death of the postal worker, touched many in the community and is a reminder of how we want to be remembered when it’s all over. Every one of us leaves earth at some point. What lessons will you teach? What kindness will you leave behind? How many hearts will you touch? What will be your legacy?
Choose wisely.
